2022 Commonwealth Games Day 1 Highlights: Srihari Nataraj Reaches Finalist to End the Day for India

Commonwealth Games, Day 1: Highlights: Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games was a good day for India, as Srihari Nataraj reached the men’s 100m backstroke final like a cherry on a cake. In badminton, PV Sindhu starred as India beat Pakistan 5-0 in a mixed group A match. In addition to Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and three doubles teams also won against Pakistan. India’s women’s hockey team also started their campaign with a 5-0 win over Ghana. In another big win over an Indian, boxer Shiva Thapa beat Pakistan’s Suleiman Baloch 5-0 in the 63kg category. India’s women’s TT team kicked off their successful campaign by beating South Africa 3-0 in their first match and then winning 3-0 over Fiji in the second, while the men’s team beat Barbados and Singapore. Anahat Singh, 14, won his squash match in Round 64 against Jada Ross from St Vincent and the Grenadines, while Abhay Singh beat Joe Chapman from the British Virgin Islands in his Round 64 match . However, India has tasted defeat in grass pitching, swimming (50 m butterfly and 400 m freestyle) and cycling events. In addition, the Indian women’s cricket team lost to Australia with a score of three goals. Opening day can go a long way in setting a good tone for the Indian team in the event.
