2023 DeLorean EV revealed before August 18

Revealed by the revived DeLorean traveling back in time.

DeLorean Automobile Co (DMC) has said it will unveil its upcoming remastered DeLorean electric sports car on August 18 at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, three days earlier than previously announced.

At the reveal, DMC will also reveal the official name of the two-door EV.

Ahead of this event, DMC has released another teaser image of the electric sports car.

This image was first seen with a significant amount of blur on April 1, 2022 as an April Fools joke and then re-uploaded three days later with no blur.

It shows a rear section of the DeLorean EV sports car with wide side skirts, a strip of lights forming the tail lights, a side window on the rear window and a small rearview mirror.

A large rear diffuser and air vents can also be seen on the rear apron.

The concept’s silver finish pays homage to the DMC-12’s original stainless steel body panels.

As seen before in First intro video from February 2022The reimagined DeLorean can be seen opening a pair of winged doors, an iconic DeLorean feature.

There was also a moment where two different V-shaped beams of light swept across the car.

Coincidentally, this is extremely similar to the lighting symbol that Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast uses on its vehicles.

DMC is still very tight-lipped about this new electric sports car.

It has not confirmed power and torque output, nor how many electric motors it will have, although we expect it to have a top speed in excess of 88mph…

Not to be confused with the original company founded by John Z. DeLorean, this new version of DMC was founded by British mechanic Stephen Wynne in 1995 when he acquired the original company name, trademark logo. and the remaining parts in stock.

DMC is headquartered in Humble, Texas and for the past 15 years has produced refurbished DeLorean models and new parts. It also later introduced commodities and is currently exploring the NFT space.

The original company first announced the DMC-12 in the mid-1970s and began production in 1981.

Originally intended to feature a mid-mounted Wankel rotary engine, the DeLorean ended up going with a rear-mounted 2.85-liter Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 naturally aspirated engine, producing 97kW of power and torque. 207Nm twist.

This is paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic that sends power to the rear wheels.

Just like the remade DeLorean EV, the original DeLorean was designed by world-renowned car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who founded ItalDesign.

Giugiaro is best known for designing the original Volkswagen Golf CourseLotus Espirit S1, Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB Speciale, first generation Maserati Ghibliand Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT, among countless others.

The original DeLorean was only sold within 3 model years, with the final model year being 1983. This was mainly due to poor build quality and high asking price.

Instead of disappearing into the shadows like Bricklin SV-1, DeLorean gained immense popularity thanks to its role in the Back to the Future series.

DMC is not alone in taking an iconic nameplate and re-imagining it in a modern context.

Lamborghini revealed now sold out Countach LPI 800-4 in August 2021, the car carries a modern hybrid design under the angular body inspired by the legendary Countach supercar.

Only 112 of these new Countach models will be made, with each costing around AU$5 million.
