2023 Honda Civic Type R is about to launch in the middle of the year
Global reveal of the next generation 2023 Honda Civic CHEAP is getting closer and closer.
The new Honda hot hatch will be revealed in the Northern Hemisphere summer, and it has proven to be just as powerful of a race monster as its upcoming sibling.
A development prototype of the new Civic CHEAP hot hatch set a front-wheel drive car lap record at Suzuka International Circuit (Suzuka Circuit) with a lap time of 2:23.12.
This broke the previous record of the lightweight, specially tuned 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition by 0.873 seconds.
This is notable as this new Civic Type R is expected to be a regular version only, while the previous record holder was a purely race-focused model.
Once here, the new Civic Type R will compete with Toyota GR Corolla, Cupra Leon VZxand CHEAP Volkswagen Golfas Hyundai i30 FEMALE, Renault Megane RS Trophy and Audi S3among others.
Like before, the new Civic Type R is expected to use a petrol engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
Honda is expected to offer an improvement of the current 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the bonnet. In the previous model, it produced 228kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
THAN: Toyota GR Corolla 2023 Performance Specifications Compared to Its Biggest Rivals
This new generation Honda Civic Type R has been seen with the same camouflage wrap since October 2021 and one has yet to see it without it.
At the front there is a clean central air intake with simple bumpers compared to the fussy low-profile intakes of the accompanying model.
There’s a broken ankle front splitter and inflated wheel arches, complete with a vent on the back of the front arch to relieve pressure at high speeds.
Honda has been clear about the fact that the last Civic Type R is generating real thrust, and it is expected this one will be no different.
The puffy guardians are paired with unique side skirts, certainly similar to the ones on the Type R go.
At the rear, the biggest news is the new rear wing. Unlike the previous unit, it is mounted on slim, sports car-inspired struts and sits higher on the bootlid.
It’s not quite the swan-neck spoiler of the new one Porsche 911 GT3but it is certainly the equivalent of hot-hatch.
Under the spoiler are the same three exhaust pipes as the previous model, except that the middle exhaust is now larger on the sides.
They’re surrounded by a rear diffuser that seems likely to contribute to the car’s overall force, rather than just being there for the sake of aesthetics.
Only part of the interior can be seen in the YouTube Suzuka lap video, but it is expected to take the interior of the existing 2022 Honda Civic and most likely add a red-black steering wheel, metal gear lever and a set of bucket seat worms.
When the new Civic Type R arrives locally, it will sit alongside the new, regular and new-generation Civic hatch HR VUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SUV car.
The standard Civic is already available and the new HR-V will launch at Honda showrooms on April 19, 2022.
