The 2024 Renault 5 – a reborn electric version of the iconic French hatchback – has been prematurely unveiled online, shortly before covers are due to come off the new model.
Images uploaded to multiple online forums show the production-ready Renault 5, with the electric hatchback’s design largely unchanged from the concept first seen three years ago.
It’s not the first time the Renault 5 has been leaked – after internal presentation documents surfaced in November last year, followed by a series of patent images in December – but these pictures give the most complete look yet of the new 5.
Changes compared to the concept car are minimal, with revised LED headlights, a more conventional front bumper and no bonnet-mounted charging indicator to be seen on the production-spec hatchback.
However, the bright yellow paintwork, contrast black roof, vertical tail lights and funky wheels remain, as does the rear door handle towards the C-pillar.
Its design not only throws back to the concept but also the original Renault 5, which was produced with petrol and diesel power across two generations from 1972 to 1996.
Inside there’s a digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment screen, driver-oriented controls and what appears to be bright yellow and grey fabric upholstery.
As previously reported, the Renault 5 will be the first model from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance to use the AmpR Small platform (previously known as the CMF-B EV) which will be used in the smaller reborn Renault 4.
Given the platform is a derivative of the CMF-B architecture which underpins the Renault Arkana and Captur, plus the Nissan Juke, it’s estimated approximately 70 per cent of the 5’s components will be shared with the existing models.

It’s understood the Renault 5’s battery will be smaller and lighter than the pack in the Zoe, but it’s unlikely to lose much of the existing electric model’s 52kWh capacity.
Renault is yet to release full details for the new 5, however it has previously confirmed one of the drivetrains on offer will be the ePT-100kW, likely referencing its 100kW power output.
Covers will officially come off the Renault 5 at the 2024 Geneva motor show in the coming days, ahead of production beginning later this year in France.
