India’s Covid curve shows a slight improvement today as the country reported 2,58k cases, about 5% lower than yesterday. According to the Ministry of Health, up to 385 people have died from Covid within the past 24 hours.

The country’s caseload is currently at 3.73 crore. This includes 8,209 cases of the Omicron variant currently present in 29 states.

Active cases now account for 4.43% of total infections, while the nationwide COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 94.27%. Daily positivity increased from 16.28% to 19.65% while weekly positivity was recorded at 14.41%.

Maharashtra, one of the states hardest hit by the Covid pandemic, is recorded 41,327 new coronavirus infections, 1,135 people down from the previous day and 29 deaths. The current total of trucks is 72,11,810 and the death toll is 1,41,808. Eight new Omicron cases were reported in the state, bringing the total number of such infections to 1,738.

Delhi on Sunday reported 18,286 COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths, while the positivity rate dropped to 27.87% from 30.64% a day ago, according to health ministry data. State Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that the city is proceeding triple the diagnostic tests compared with the number suggested by ICMR.

According to the Center’s new guidelines, asymptomatic patients do not need to be tested. In addition, laboratory contacts of COVID-19 patients do not need to be tested unless they have comorbidities or are over 60 years of age.
