Epic Games’ latest update to Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 has gone live, and it brings tornadoes and thunderbolts for players to avoid (or take advantage of) in the battle royale.
Unlike the stormy weather in the latest release of EA Dice, Battlefield 2042, players can use these new tornadoes to traverse the battle royale map quickly by simply jumping in. You’ll also know a tornado is on its way, as it will swirl across the sky before touching down.
“If you see a tornado starting to form, that is not a signal to run away,” reads the v19.01 update press release. “Instead, dive into it as an exit strategy. You’ll spin ‘until you choose to glide to safety – or if you spin long enough -‘ until the twisting car spits you out. Don’t worry: you won’t suffer fall damage if you get thrown. ”
However, tornadoes aren’t all that’s new in Fortnite – lightning has joined the fray.
“If you see a dark cloud starting to form, that’s not necessarily a signal to flee,” Epic Games said in a press release. “Sure, the lightning from it deals a small amount of damage (and sets the area on fire), but the power of its shock gives the player a temporary boost.”
If you’re looking to increase your chances of being struck by lightning, jump into the water below the cloud or to the highest point of land below the storm. Lightning also doesn’t strike twice – once you’ve been hit by lightning once, there’s a cool-down before you can get hit again.
Flare Gun also returns to Fortnite from the Vault with this update.
Epic Games says: “Don’t let it be just a flash to start a fire”. “With this hotfix, Flare Gun has been improved. So now in addition to the Firefly Pot, you can ignite the Flare Gun to take advantage of the spreading flames. Find Firearms in chests, on the ground, and from Supply Drops. ”
Finally, Epic Games says Fortnite is now in “Tornado Week”. During this event, which runs until January 17, there is a higher percentage chance that you will encounter tornadoes on the island for your in-game launch.
If you haven’t checked out Fortnite late, now is a great time to do so Spider-Man, web-slinging, and more have joined the fray with Chapter 3. Also, if you’re a Cobra Kai fan, you can now include any of the original Fortnite characters. Cobra Kai, Eagle Fang or Miyagi-Do outfit.
