The center on Wednesday asked eight famous artists, who were allotted by the government years ago but canceled in 2014, to leave the facilities by May 2, a move comes a day after deportation proceedings were conducted against 90-year-old Padma Shri. award recipient and dancer Odissi Guru Mayadhar Raut.
A senior official from the Union’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said that of the 28 artists, there are still about eight who have not moved out of government accommodation despite numerous announcements.
“These eight artists assured us they were in the process of clearing out their bungalows and looking for a few more days. They gave us a written commitment that they would be leaving the venues. facilities before May 2 and we have given them time until then,” the official told the Press Trust of India.
Regarding the deportation of Guru Mayadhar Raut, the official said that a group of officials had been sent to his government bungalow to initiate the deportation proceedings. Videos and photos on social media show his household items stored outside the wooden house.
As per government policy, up to 40 artists can be allocated accommodation under a special quota in the Condominium with Pool as suggested by the culture ministry if they earn less than Rs 20,000 a month .

The court said it would let the Center take action if the petitioners failed to comply with the February order.
The single judge ruled on the pleas of dancer Mohiniyattam Bharati Shivaji, dancer Kuchipudi Guru V Jayarama Rao, Mayadhar Raut, Dhrupad singer Ustad F Wasifuddin Dagar, dancer Bharatanatyam Rani Shinghal, expert Kathak Geetanjali Lal, and other artists including KR Subanna, Kamal Sabri, Devraj Dakoji, Kamalini, artist Jatin Das, Pt Bhajan Sopori and Ganguly.
Vanashree Rao, wife of Kuchipudi dancer Guru Jayarama Rao, who was assigned a house in 1987, said they were in the process of relocating the property.
“We have already started packing household items. The government is not ready to listen to us. We will be moving soon,” Mr. Rao told PTI news agency on Wednesday.
