Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked the Center on the killing of civilians during an anti-insurgency operation in Nagaland’s Mon district, saying the government must give “real answers” about the ministry’s What the Interior is doing when “both civilians and security. staff are safe on our land”.
Police in Nagaland said at least 11 civilians were killed by security forces and they are investigating whether the incident was a case of mistaken identity.
Responding to the incident, Mr. Gandhi tweeted, “This is heartbreaking. GOI must give real answers. What exactly is the Home Office doing when neither civilians nor security personnel are safe? in our land?”
The military on Sunday ordered the Court to investigate the killing of civilians and expressed deep regret over the incident.
Military officials said the operation in the Mon district, which borders Myanmar, was based on credible intelligence on insurgent movements in the area.
It said security forces were badly wounded during the operation and one soldier could not cope with the wound.
