New Delhi:
Hollywood opened up its awards season account with a paleo version of the Golden Globes held behind closed doors on Sunday (Monday morning for India). Will Smith took home his sixth Golden Globe. He won Best Actor (Drama) for King Richard. Early winners include Squid Game’s O Yeong-su and HeirJeremy Strong, who won Best Supporting Actor (Television) and Best Television Actor (TV Series). Succession also brought Sarah Snook the award for Best Supporting Actress (Television). DeBose won Best Supporting Actress (Film) for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. Jason Sudeikis Wins Best Television Actor (Comedy/Musical) for Ted Lasso. Andrew Garfield Wins Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) for Mark, Mark, Boom. Hacks Big win in the television comedy category.
This year’s nominees, announced December 13 by Snoop Dogg, are led by Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog with seven nominations each.
This year’s Golden Globes are held privately except for the red carpet, audience and TV shows – and not just because of COVID. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association or HFPA, which awards the Globe, is facing scrutiny over diversity and ethical issues. No stars attended the Globes because of industry boycotts, led by Tom Cruise, Scarlett Johansson and other A-listers. The awards show was blurred out after NBC announced that it would not air it this year. The HFPA announced over the weekend that the show would also not be broadcast live.
