The radar is designed for low-altitude scanning, combat mode circular scanning, and inter-service applications. It uses a phased array antenna (large upper array) to detect and track low-altitude targets.
The two arrays behind the lower back are secondary radars, the thinner one for international standards (SIF Mark Ⅻ), the larger one for the Russian national IFF. The narrow antenna next to the large array is a compensating antenna to protect against interference.
