Actress Mary Mara dies at 61 after drowning in New York River
The acting world has lost a star.
Mary Maraan actress known for her roles in er and Law & Order, passed away at the age of 61, her agent confirmed to E! Newsletter June 27.
“Mary is one in a million — one of the best actresses I’ve ever met,” Mara’s manager, Craig Dorfman, said in a statement. “I first saw her off Broadway in 1992 in Crazy forest and she’s electrifying. She is unique, wickedly funny, and a wonderful woman that one would overlook. “
Mara was found dead on June 26 after a suspected drowning while swimming in the St. Lawrence, according to a press release from the New York State Police. Authorities said in a statement that Mara’s body showed no signs of abuse.
The cause of death has not yet been released, pending investigation from the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
During her extended career in television, Mara held a recurring role as Loretta Sweet on er from 1995 to 1996. In addition to the popular soap opera, Mara appeared on Hope & Gloria, NYPD Blue and Dexter.
