It’s understandable why Broner wasn’t in good form against Santiago as he was about to be sacked 25 months after his loss to Manny Pacquiao in January 2019. With that type of dismissal, it’s no surprise that he’s didn’t set the world on fire before Santiago last year.
There’s no word yet on whether Broner will fight his comeback fight in July, but it is believed he will drop to 140 to give himself the best chance of regaining his glory.

Staying active is key
Broner can’t afford to take on an inferior opponent in July, especially if it will be the only game of the year for him. Fighting once a year puts Broner in the predicament of having to win again at a world title or an important battle.
Broner has missed too much time over the past four years for him to continue to fight year after year as Gary Russell Jr. Indeed, since 2018, Broner has only fought THREE times, and that’s a pitiful number for a world-class boxer.
Broner’s time to rest is when he retires, not when he’s still active with his career. Broner’s career has faltered significantly since his 2013 loss to Marcos Maidana.
