Air India, SpiceJet Owe Rs 2,350 and Rs 185 on government claim
Air India and private airline SpiceJet owe Rs 2,350 crore and Rs 185 respectively to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the government said in Parliament on Monday.
The charges, according to the September 2021 figures, were mentioned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Civil Aviation VK Singh in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
Mr. Singh said in his reply, some airlines did not accept the removal of their fees.
The minister said the outstanding fees of Air India, Alliance Air, SpiceJet and Go Air (now known as Go First) until September 2021 are Rs 2,350 crore, Rs 109 crore, Rs 185 crore and Rs 185 crore, respectively and 56 Rs.
AAI monitors airlines regularly to recover charges under its credit policy, he said.
The Minister noted that the calculation of penalty interest, the recovery of the deposit along with the application of legal measures are other measures available to AAI to carry out the collection of fees.
AAI owns 125 retail airports across the country. Airlines must regularly pay various fees such as landing and parking fees to AAI to operate aircraft from its airports.
