Arvind Kejriwal suggested pictures of Lakshmi, Ganesh on banknotes; know why these gods represent prosperity, wealth
The AAP National Convenor said that the inclusion of pictures of Gods and Goddesses along with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi would bring prosperity to India.
CM clarified that he was not asking for banknotes to be exchanged, but only for new banknotes with images of Lakshmi and Ganesh. “Every day new bills are printed. Then these pictures can be added,” said Kejriwal, emphasizing that the gods are associated with prosperity.
Why are Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh worshiped during the festival period?
Although there are separate annual days for Ganesh Chaturthi – dedicated to Lord Ganesh – and Lakshmi Puja – celebrated in the east of the country, especially in West Bengal – on Diwali day, Devotees do a special puja for the gods and dress elegantly.
On the day Dhantrayodashi or Dhanteras too – an auspicious occasion celebrated two days before Diwali – people worship Goddess Lakshmi, who is said to appear in the churning of the ocean, also known as ‘Samudra-manthan‘, with a pot of gold.
During Dhanteras, people usually buy new gold, silver and utensils, and offer prayers to Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi; This is said to be the right time to invest in these metals as they bring prosperity, luck and happiness.
Explaining the connection between Lakshmi, Ganesh and wealth and prosperity, says astrologer Pandit Jagannath guruji indianexpress.com that while Goddess Lakshmi signifies wealth, prosperity, finance and business, Lord Ganesh – often hailed as ‘Vighnaharta’ – signifies the removal of obstacles and negative energies.
“In currency [notes], having pictures of Lakshmi and Ganesh might be a good thing, but it might not have any big impact. It is a spiritual idea. Astrologically, it’s a good sign, but it’s impossible to predict if it will help the economy.
“[Planet] Venus is Goddess Lakshmi’s ‘graha’ and Mercury is Lord Ganesh’s ‘graha’ – taken together, this combination works great, but when it comes to our economy, Rahu is in transit. So in the next 5 years, even after replacing banknotes with pictures of Goddess Lakshmi, nothing will change,” he said.
