At the UN, Ukraine flags the Home page of the last text of the Russian soldier
New York:
The Ukrainian ambassador said at a UN General Assembly session on Monday, a Russian soldier, in his last text message to his mother before being killed in Ukraine, said he was “afraid” and his army “even targeting civilians”.
Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, said that the messages were from the phone of a dead soldier.
Kyslytsya said: “I want to read these messages from the smartphone of a dead Russian soldier.
According to the messages he read, the soldier told his mother that it was very difficult in Ukraine, where people “were lying under our armored vehicles”.
“Mom, I’m in Ukraine. There’s a real war raging here. I’m afraid. Together we bombed all cities, even targeting civilians. We were told that they’ll greet us and they’re lying under our armored vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not letting us pass. They call us fascists. Mom, this is hard”, this soldier said, according to a document read by the Ukrainian ambassador.
Holding pictures of the messages, the envoy added: “This was the moment before he was killed. Just realize the magnitude of this tragedy.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and has since advanced to the country’s capital, Kyiv, shelling several cities.
Increasingly isolated, Russia faces urgent calls to end its “unprovoked” and “unprovoked” attack on Ukraine as 193 members of the UN General Assembly hold an extraordinary debate. about the invasion of the former Soviet state.
In a rare session, only the 11th session in the history of the United Nations General Assembly, Russia defended its decision to invade its neighbor as a country after it called for peace.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged: “The war in Ukraine must stop. Enough is enough.”
Representatives from more than 100 countries are expected to speak in three days as the UN decides whether it supports a resolution demanding Russia’s immediate withdrawal of troops from Ukraine. A vote is expected on Wednesday and it must hit the 2/3 threshold to pass.
