‘Auction’ app creator for Muslim women arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore: Police
Delhi Police today arrested a Madhya Pradesh man who is believed to be the creator of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app. This is the first arrest made in the case of the “Sulli Deals” app.
The app, which launched last year, has put Muslim women on the ‘auction’ list with photos sourced without permission and without editing.
The recently created ‘Sulli Deals’ app and ‘Bulli Bai’ app allegedly uploaded photos of Muslim women without their consent and inappropriate comments were passed through against them. Both apps use ‘GitHub’ hosting platform to auction stolen photos.
The accused, Aumkareshwar Thakur, was detained by the Delhi Police’s Intelligence and Strategic Operations Organization (IFSO) in Indore of Madhya Pradesh.
“Om Thakur has been arrested from Indore. He is the main mastermind behind the Sulli deal application case,” said KPS Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joint Intelligence and Strategic Operations Division, Agency. Special of Delhi Police said.
They said Thakur, 26, studied BCA from IPS Academy in Indore and is a resident of New York Town.
Police say that Thakur developed the code for ‘Sulli’s Transaction’ on GitHub and shared the app on Twitter.
In January 2020, Thakur joined a group called ‘Trade Mahasabha’ using ‘gangescion’ on Twitter. Group members often discussed how to troll Muslim women, police said.
After the ‘Sulli Deals’ app was created, members from this Twitter group allegedly posted photos of several Muslim women, including prominent figures.
Thakur deleted all his social media accounts after the app made headlines recently. The police are interrogating him and scanning through the gadgets they found on him.
The police identified and arrested Thakur on the basis of the input they received during the interrogation of the app ‘Bulli Bai’ creator Niraj Bishnoi. In addition to Bishnoi, three other defendants have also been arrested in the Bulli Bai application case.
