Bajrang Punia becomes 1st Indian to win 4 medals at World Wrestling Championships, claims bronze in Belgrade | More sports News
BELGRADE (Serbia): Ace grappler Bajrang Punia Became the only Indian to win four medals at the World Wrestling Championship by winning a bronze in the current edition on Sunday.
Bajrang, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics last year, narrowly won 11-9 by point against Puerto Rico’s Sebastian C Rivera in one of the bronze medal matches.
Bajrang, who lost to John Michael Diakomihalis of America in the quarterfinals, qualified for bronze through a replay, where he defeated Vazgen Tevanyan of Armenia 7-6.

It is Bajrang’s third coin in the world. The famous Indian wrestler previously won bronze in 2013, silver in 2018 and bronze in 2019.
India has fielded a 30-member team for the ongoing World Championships but has a much worse record, winning just two medals.
Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, was eliminated early and failed to secure a place on the podium.
Apart from Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat won her second world championship bronze medal in the women’s 53kg.
Vinesh beat Emma Malmgren of Sweden 8-0 to take bronze here.
