BJP’s Tajinder Bagga, whose arrest on Friday sparked a dramatic confrontation involving the two sides and police forces across three states, has been granted security police clearance by a Delhi court. Mr Bagga has deemed his detention by Punjab police “illegal”.

After being released from Punjab police custody, Mr Bagga was taken to Delhi and taken before a court in Dwarka, where the Trial Judge directed the case. Delhi police provide security to the BJP leader and his family. Duty Magistrate’s attorneys decided to provide confidentiality after the BJP leader expressed concern that such incidents could happen to him again, his attorney said.

Supporters YP Singh and Sanket Gupta, who appeared for Mr Bagga, also said that a medical examination of Mr Bagga showed he suffered injuries to his back and shoulder. Mr Bagga’s statement will be recorded before the Judge concerned on Monday.

Mr Bagga arrived at his residence in Delhi on Friday evening, almost 20 hours after he was detained by Punjab Police at his home in the national capital. Mr. Bagga’s family members celebrated his return and distributed sweets to those present.
