BMW Australia has increased its price brand new X1 SUV up to $6500 even less than six months after launch.
That means the range now opens at $60,400 for the entry-level X1 sDrive18i ($6,500 up), while the xDrive20i xLine and M Sport versions have a corresponding increase from $4,500 to $70,400 and $73,400 – all prices before circulation costs.
A spokesperson from the local BMW division said auto expert: “BMW continuously reviews its pricing structure throughout the year, taking into account a number of different factors.”
“However, we always aim to ensure our products remain appropriately positioned and represent a competitive market price proposition for our customers.”
Despite the significant price increase, the standard specs remain the same. iX1 is all-electric — launched in April — is unaffected by these price hikes, keeping the previously announced $82,900 starting price.
Compared to competitors with premium badges, X1 is still far behind Mercedes GLA (from $63,200), but is now much higher than the starting price of Lexus UX250h (from $53,820), Little compatriot (from $46,405) and VolvoXC40 (from $53,490).
It also elevates the X1’s position further than the high-spec versions of mainstream mid-size SUVs that can be cross-purchased with the X1, such as Cupra Formentor VZ ($59,490 drive away), Mazda CX-5 G35 ($54,000), Kia Sportage GT-Line 1.6T AWD ($49,720), pieces Peugeot 3008 GT 1.6T ($53,414) and Skoda Karoq Sportline 4×4 ($50,990 drive away).
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen BMW raise prices in this fashion. Come back in August The company has raised prices across its entire product line, with some models having hikes as high as $11,000.
