Via Vince Dwriter: The main event on Saturday night August 6 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland features a featherweight pair both trying to recover from adversity. Michael “Mick” Conlan and Miguel “The Scorpion” Marriaga will meet in the center of the ring in pursuit of a much-needed victory to get their boxing careers back on track.
In March 2022, Michael Conlan participated in an action match against Leigh Wood. As the opening half ended, Michael Conlan hit Leigh Wood with an explosive left hook that sent Wood to the frame. Wood was able to get up and seconds later the bell rang.
Conlan was in control for the first few rounds, but Wood was able to come back. In the middle of the fight, it turns into a very interesting back-and-forth battle. Late in the eleventh round, Wood used a short left hook to knock Conlan down. Between round 12 and the final, Leigh Wood ended the match in a dramatic way by knocking out Michael Conlan with a barrage of shots that sent Conlan off the ring completely.
Miguel Marriaga’s previous match, against Eduardo Ramirez, was the opening match of a Showtime pay-per-view event that featured Gervonta Davis against Isaac Cruz. Marriaga started strong, but in the third round he was dropped by Ramirez. From that point on, Ramirez was able to set the tone, by controlling the tempo of the fight and coordinating with Marriaga for a decisive unanimous victory.
Five months ago, Michael Conlan (16-1, 8 KOs), suffered defeat for the first time, and now he is trying to get back on track by stepping into the ring to face Miguel Marriaga (30- 5, 26 KOs), who is a motivated and determined opponent.
