Former WBC interim Lightweight champion Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia stopped Mexico’s Oscar Durate in the eighth round in the main event on Saturday night at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
In the co-main event, unbeaten WBA International Lightweight champion “Kid Austin” Floyd Schofield of Austin, Texas, scored four knockdowns stopping Mexico’s Ricardo “Explosivo” Lopez in the first round.
In the Main Event, former WBC interim Lightweight champion Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia, 24-1 (20), #143, of Victorville, CA, stopped Oscar Duarte, 26-2-1 (21), #142 ¾, of Parral, Chihuahua, MEX, at 2:51 of the eighth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first round it was all Ryan using his jab with an occasional left uppercut to the chin of Durate and little coming back from Duarte. In the second round, Durate finally landed a solid punch and a left hook to the chin of Garcia.
In the final twenty seconds, Garcia landed a right uppercut on the chin. In the third round, Garcia countered the oncoming Durate, who was warned twice by Referee James Green for hitting on the back.
In the fourth round, Durate was warned for low blows. Garcia continued using his jab to keep Durate on the defense. In the fifth round, it was Garcia warned for a low blow. Durate had a decent round, taking his first.
In the fifth round, Durate landed three left hooks to the chin, and when Garcia turned his body to the side, he got hit in the back.
In the seventh round, Durate wins his third straight round, continuing following Garcia, who keeps moving without throwing little in return as Durate uses a good left hook to the body.
In the eighth round, Durate continued chasing until Garcia landed a left hook to the chin, followed by a pair of punches, knocking down Durate, who took too long to beat the count as referee Green waved it off at 10.
WBO NABO Middleweight champion Shane Mosley, Jr., 21-4 (12) stopped Joshua “Young Gun” Conley, 17-6-1 (11), after six rounds of a scheduled ten rounds for the WBA Continental title.
In the first round halfway point, Conley was cut between his left eye and his nose from a right from Mosley. In the third round, Conley landed left hooks but failed to follow up with his right hands. Mosley had an edge in the round, but it was competitive. In the fourth round, it was all Mosley with Conley on the defense.
In the fifth round, Conley’s left eye began to close from Mosley’s jabs. Conley seemed to be loading up with little offense. In the sixth round, a right from Mosley on the chin had Conley all but down, seemingly exhausted.
He landed the final punch, a left hook to the chin then stumbled to his corner at the bell. His corner called a halt. The referee was James Green.
In the co-main event, WBA International Lightweight champion “Kid Austin” Floyd Scofield, 16-0 (12) stopped Ricardo “Explosivo” Lopez, 17-7-3-1nc (12) at 1:51 of the first round of a scheduled ten rounds.
In the first round, Scofield dropped Lopez with a left on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Joe Rodriguez. The second knockdown again was another left to the chin. Then, a left jab for the third knockdown. A right to the body for a fourth knockdown before referee Rodriguez “finally” called a halt.
Super Middleweight Darius “DFG” Fulghum, 9-0 (9), #167 ¾, of Houston, TX, stopped Pachino Hill, 8-5-1 (6), #170, of Davenport, IA, at 0:56 of the second round of a scheduled eight rounds, for the WBA USA Continental Middle title.
In the first round, it was all Fulghum landing punches almost at will. In the second round, starting with a solid jab, Fulghum landed over a dozen punches without return against an overmatched Hill, forcing Referee Mark Calo-oy to call a halt.
