Buick Brings the Name Electra; Forecast ideas about Wildcat EV Design Direction | Daily Drive | Consumer Guide® The Daily Drive
This week, Buick wrapped up an all-electric concept car with impressive styling and also announced that it is committed to becoming an all-electric brand by the end of the decade. Buick says it will bring its first all-electric vehicle to market by 2024, and that future Buick EV products will use the branding from Buick’s past: Electra. Buick also revealed a redesigned version of its familiar three-shield emblem and said the new emblem will debut on its production vehicles starting next year.
Buick Wildcat EV Concept
The Buick Wildcat EV concept is a luxury two-door coupe with a 2+2 seating arrangement (i.e. a very small rear row). It also brings back a name from Buick’s past; The Wildcat moniker was used on a trio of show cars in the 1950s, and later adorned a series of regular production Buicks from 1962-70. Sharon Gauci, managing director, Global Buick and GMC Design, said the Wildcat EV concept “opens the next chapter in Buick’s design legacy, as we make an important transition to the all-electric future. our electricity.”

The main aim of the Wildcat EV was to showcase Buick’s new interior and exterior design motifs — styling cues that will appear on production models in the near future. No technical details have been provided on the concept’s electric powertrain, although Buick’s upcoming EVs will use GM’s Ultium battery technology. Styling highlights of the Wildcat EV concept include the low-profile trapezoidal grille with thin horizontal slats; slim, blade-shaped headlights and taillights; Turbine-style 18-spoke wheels; and Buick’s new three-shield logo. Future features of the Wildcat interior include “Zen Mode”; When the sensor detects that the driver’s heart rate is high, the car will dim the cabin lights, actively massage the seats and even release soothing aromatherapy.

Buick brings back the name Electra
Buick’s future all-electric products will carry the Electra name, which is said to have a numerical designation to indicate the vehicle’s dimensions — we think this strategy will be similar to Hyundai’s Ioniq EV sub-brand , which includes the Ioniq 5 2022 compact crossover and is set to expand with the addition of the Ioniq 6 sedan and Ioniq 7 SUV in the near future.
Despite the fact that the Wildcat EV is certainly a car, we don’t expect a return to traditional passenger cars in Buick’s North American lineup. Buick Vice President Duncan Aldred recently reiterated that Buick is a “global premium SUV brand”.
CG says:
It’s no surprise that GM’s push for electric vehicles will eventually include the Buick, but we can’t help but feel the Wildcat EV concept is a bit of a tease – there are no plans to build a production version. Buick seems to have a habit of showcasing spectacular concept cars that don’t end up on the show floor, even if some of their styling cues do. (We can’t help but remember the lovely things Buick Avista concept in 2016.) Still, the Wildcat’s styling cues are lovely and EV-appropriate in our eyes, and they would have looked good when they appeared on Buick’s EV Electra crossover-SUVs a few years ago.
