BYD Atto 3 EV has arrived in Australia, orderers are asked to wait for a message
There’s no shortage of pre-launch hype for Australia’s new cheapest electric car, BYD Atto 3But in the end, the project rubber has reached the road.
The first trucks of the BYD Atto 3 SUV arrived from China and rolled onto the trucks, starting in Brisbane. As previously reported, three trains departing from China with the first batch.
The company claims to have more than 4000 sales, with deliveries to buyers expected to begin this month.
BYD says they can make 3000 of these cars per month for our right hand drive market. If this turns out to be the case, BYD will be second in the electric car sales race here this year, behind only Tesla, and ahead of Hyundai and MG.

“For our important pre-order customers, rest assured that as soon as your vehicle arrives, our team will contact you to begin the purchase and delivery process.” BYD Australia’s importer and distributor, EVDirect.com.au, claims.
“Until your car arrives, our team can only provide you with the same information that you can access, at any time, through your online portal.”
Head of EVDirect.com.au, Luke Todd, said he was “proud to say that the first BYD Atto 3 trucks are now rolling out across Brisbane and there will be thousands soon to come thousands more. [will be] nationwide”.
“Had a lot of press this week about why Australia is lagging far behind in electric vehicle adoption. While others are arguing and waiting, EVDirect and BYD have begun work on building high-quality low-cost electric cars for Australian families,” he added.

The first right-drive Atto 3s was unveiled last week at the Indooroopilly Shopping Center in Brisbane, with football superstar Tim Cahill (of the round category), there. EVDirect.com.au claims more than 2000 people participated in the disclosure.
BYD, the Chinese maker of electric (or at least electrified) vehicles, was until recently best known for its fleet of EV buses and the fact that one of its major long-term shareholders is investor Warren Buffett.
But it’s busy spreading its tentacles globally including to Australia, where it has partnered with EVDirect to sell a range of affordable electric vehicles available to buy both online or showroom network supported by the Eagers . dealer group. MyCar is a service partner.
Its first car was about $45,000 BYD Atto 3 Electric SUVs, which will face stiffer competition in 2023 include the MG 4 (also Chinese), the Ora Cat and the updated MG ZS EV.

It also plans to open order books for BYD Seal sedan (a Tesla Model 3 competitor) and BYD Dolphin or EA1 (a small EV hatch) before the end of 2022, with deliveries in 2023, it claims. It also wants to deliver an electric uterus by mid-decade at the earliest.
Globally, BYD is considered one of the longest-standing competitors to Tesla among so-called ‘non-legacy’ brands, and is even poised to its in-house battery supply to the electric car superstar run by Elon Musk.
“We were overwhelmed with not only buyers, but also people interested in the product. For some people, BYD is a new brand and they have never heard of it, but for others, BYD is a highly anticipated brand,” said Todd.
“We are very excited about the volume of deposits we have made [on Atto 3]. We are well on our way to becoming the second largest electric vehicle company with deliveries this year,” he added, specifically referring to Australia.
