Coolmore and Westerberg’s 2-year-old pony Alexandroupolis (Ire) (Camelot {GB} –Jazz Cat {Ire}, by Tamayuz {GB}), a 240,000gns Tattersalls October Book graduate with full Group 1 entries, was eliminated 17-2 to the EBF Maiden program of Irish Farms on Tuesday crossed a mile stretch at Galway and displayed a rare footwork in the closing stages to overtake the dominant opponent for a ‘Rising Star TDN‘. The winner ended up in seventh place midfield throughout the early parts of this debut. Taking orders closer on the home leg, he’s quick in impressive fashion to take his challenge between opponents past the further marker and open in style in the closing stages to easily reject stable teammates Spy (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is 1 3/4 of the length.
“He was a good pony, he showed a little bit at home and Wayne [Lordan] Chris Armstrong of Ballydoyle commented. “Coming here for the first time can be difficult, but Wayne has been patient with him. He finds gaps in the late game and finishes well. He will have no problem joining the joint stock company later this year and hopes to be a good mid-autumn horse for next year. He has a very good lodging pedigree and Galway is a great place to start them at this time of year. “
Alexandroupolis – whose portfolio of entries includes the G1 Dewhurst S., G1 Futurity Trophy and next year’s G1 Derby – is the third of five ponies and the second scorer to have been produced by a sister. Full of G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis. Runner-up Gheest Thawaany (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}). His goddamn Jazz cat (Ire), herself is the daughter of G1 heroine Moyglare Stud S. Chelsea Rose (Ire) (Desert King {Ire}), also a half-sister to the G1 Grand Prix de Paris and hero G1 St Leger Kew Gardens (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), G3 Munster Oaks supplying Snow (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), second G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Irish Derby three Wordsworth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and International Test listed S. runner-up Hamlool (Ire) (Red Ransom).
