Canelo has agreed a 2-match deal with Matchroom for Bivol on May 7 and Golovkin on September 17.

Via Mark Eisner: Canelo Alvarez has agreed to a two-way deal from Matchroom to face Dmitry Bivol on May 7 and Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 on DAZN pay-per-view.

WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol signed for the bout.

It may not make some boxing fans happy that Canelo fights Bivol and Golovkin will be on the DAZN PPV, as this was originally supposed to be a non-PPV platform, but these are changing over time.

G0lovkin has yet to sign due to a number of “issues” being resolved, according to Mike Coppinger.

In addition, Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) still has to win the middleweight unification match in April against Ryota Murata in Japan. As long as IBF middleweight champion Golovkin wins that bout and signs the Canelo trio, he’s good to go.

Canelo has agreed to a two-man fight deal

“Now we are close to the finish line. I learned that Canelo had agreed to a deal for two matches with Matchroom,” Mike Coppinger said at ESPN about Canelo Alvarez agreeing to a two-match deal to face Dmitry Bivol on May 7 and Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.

“Fight one was on May 7 against Dmitry Bivol for the light heavyweight title and then in September [17th]as long as GGG beats Ryota Murata in the world title match rescheduled for April.

“What I am told at this point is that although Canelo has agreed and Dmitry Bivol signed a contract, GGG is trying to solve some problems on its part. That’s the restraint right there on GGG’s side. I believe it will be done in the coming days.

“The PBC has made two proposals. One of them is a $45 million one-game deal to play against Jermall Charlo in May.

“They also had an agreement to fight in a second capable of fighting against David Benavidez By September, the total value would have been over $100 million, but Canelo turned down that offer and negotiations ended about ten days ago, and there has been no dialogue since.” Coppinger said.

Boxing fans have complained on social media that Canelo is “undermining” Jermall Charlo, and afraid to fight him. That’s not the obvious case. Canelo can always face Charlo once he completes his two-match deal with Matchroom.

Golovkin needs to sign a contract

It won’t be good for Canelo to go up against Jermall until he fulfills his goal of becoming the undisputed champion at 175 as it will be difficult for him to bounce up and down from 168 to 175.

As it stands, Canelo will be completely lost when he returns to the weight division from 175 to 168 to face Golovkin in September.

“After GGG signs the contract, the deal will be completed. But even then, Golvokin will have to beat Ryota Murata in the middleweight unification match in Japan in April,” Coppinger said.

Canelo was probably shaken at the chance to begin his quest to become the undisputed champion at the age of 175, and that could be the reason behind his decision to agree to a two-match deal with Matchroom.

Given the intense interest among boxing and DAZN fans watching the trio fight against Golovkin, it made sense for Canelo to give what they wanted.

There are still some boxing fans who insist that Golovkin deserves to win in two fights. With Canelo agreeing to a two-match deal, he can finally show fans that he’s the better man.

Earlier, ESPN Deportes reported that the venue for the match between Canelo vs. Bivol on May 7 will be the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is also the location where Canelo fought for his two Golovkin fights, as well as his competitions against Amir Khan, Daniel Jacobs, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Erislandy Lara.
