Via Sam Volz: Gennadiy Golovkin finally has his third game against Canelo Alvarez after waiting for what many fans see as ‘a cash-out battle for him before he retires from his sports career.
The two boxers will meet on September 17 in their trio on DAZN pay-per-view at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Golovkin did not say what he plans to do after he faces Canelo for the third time, which has led boxing fans to believe he will hang up his gloves.
If Golovkin continues to fend off lackluster opposition like he did until the end of his contract with DAZN, it will be a disappointment for fans and possibly the streaming giant.
In the future, the battles that fans want to see from Golovkin after fighting these boxers:
- Jermall Charlo
- David Benavidez
- Jermell Charlo
- Demetrius Andrade
Will Golovkin fight any of those guys before retiring? I think it’s fair to say that he MUST NOT.
Now that Golovkin has his third and possibly final fight with Canelo, he has no real reason not to fight any talented boxers as he has nothing left to lose at this stage. .
If Golovkin is defeated by one of them, it won’t affect him as Canelo will probably never fight him again as he hasn’t kept his popularity by fighting against him. back to the elite level opposition since 2018 and he is inactive.
Golovkin is said to have followed the boxing style of Gary Russell Jr. when competing once a year against B-rank opponents.
Canelo is working hard to promote
Interestingly, Golovkin chose not to speak English in interviews to promote the war and gave a lot of brief answers to questions.
Some boxing fans feel Golovkin chose to do only the bare minimum to fuel the fight and wouldn’t go overboard to try and sell it.
Unfortunately, there isn’t enough interest from boxing fans to watch Canelo and Golovkin fight at this point in their careers for either one to sit idly by during the promotion of the competition.
However, it looks like Canelo is trying to generate interest in the trilogy by being aggressive, sarcastic, and trashy. He stepped out of his comfort zone to drum up profits in the third game.
After Golovkin’s loss in 2018 to Canelo, he has stepped away from fighting risky opponents and appears to be waiting for his third payday against the Mexican star.
Who can blame Golovkin for wanting that third war so badly? Given the huge amount of money GGG will make from the clash, he will add significantly to his net worth as a wealthy millionaire.
Golovkin is not sure if he will stay 168 years old
“I still do not know. We will try to fight at 168, and then we will make a decision,” Gennadiy Golovkin told Secondsout when asked if he plans at 168 to work at this weight after his match against Canelo Alvarez on September 17. “At the moment, we don’t know.
“It doesn’t matter at all,” Golovkin said of the fact that it’s not what he considers important to his legacy to beat Canelo to become undisputed at super-middleweight.
“My legacy is here. I’m not trying to achieve anything. I’m just here for the love of boxing. I don’t ask myself this question, ‘What do I want to achieve?’ I have achieved a lot. Let’s see what happens.
“I won’t say he waits for me to grow old, but on the other hand, if he wanted to fight that much, where had he been all those years? Golovkin said when asked if Canelo intentionally aged him by waiting four years for him to rematch after their last match in 2018.
“Well, this war is finally happening. Nothing private. It’s just another fight,” Gennadiy said of how it wasn’t personal for him during his trio match against Canelo. “I don’t think about him at all, and I don’t know what he thinks.
“I will be on the right track, and I hope I will succeed and prevail,” Golovkin said when asked what he would do in his third game against Canelo on tactics.
