F1 will have synthetic fuel by 2026
Formula One plans to introduce a sustainable fuel by 2026 as part of the committed to being carbon neutral by 2030.
Synthetic fuels will be introduced alongside the sport’s next hybrid iteration, which will launch the same year.
F1 hopes the fuel will be used in standard internal combustion engines and rolled out across the car industry.
According to the BBC, only 1% of cars in the world will be hybrid or electric by 2020, and F1 wants to be the driving force to increase that number in the coming years.
It has also taken a number of other steps towards its commitment to being carbon neutral, including remote broadcasting operations to reduce freight charges.
Last year’s British Grand Prix was the first to produce a carbon-neutral broadcast, and F1 plans to reorganize the same program at Silverstone this week.
F1 has also redesigned its cargo containers to be able to use the planes more efficiently to fly them around the world.
