There’s a hot new show on TV, and we’re here to tell you all about it. No, you can’t watch it yet. And that’s not because critics have pre-screeners to watch before the premiere. This show isn’t really real. (But, hey! It will always be in our hearts.)
The program we are talking about is Making Pasabrilliantly titled sitcom Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) is working in Los Angeles on Season 2 of And just like that. Say what you want about Sex and the city sequel’s characters — that they’re the worst of all time, that hate is homophobic, that you don’t mind them but you miss Steve (David Eigenberg) — this fictional show must is mentioned.
The multi-channel sitcom Che is starring in seems very silly. I want nothing more than to hate watching it at 9 p.m. Thursday, in addition to my scathing commentary at every joke. (If Die Stand-up line “Uber to my bathroom in Los Angeles” is any indicator, we are suspicious of Making Pasa write comedy.)
In the last episodes of And just like that Part 1, we learn that Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) plans to move to Los Angeles with her new romantic partner—Che, Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) former podcast co-host—going west to shoot their pilot.
Now that we’re a few episodes into Season 3, the pilot is actually filming. a la Curb your enthusiasm or Hannah Montana, Che is playing a fictional version of themselves—even though the story is written by another writer, who wants Che to wear a dazzling blue suit (awesome) with a splash of blue in his hair (no believable). Che refused. Together with Che, the show’s stars Tony Danza like their father. And, did you know, Danza plays herself in And just like that.
Making Pasa feels like a fever dream. But I’ll give Che the benefit of the doubt, even though they probably don’t deserve it, because most of the pilot’s plot is relayed through the subplots of And just like that: during brief phone calls, through arguments, and in scenes where Miranda is the main character. But I want to know everything about Che’s pilot. HBO, take this as an opportunity to turn one of these And just like that become one backdoor pilot leading to the rest of the Making Pasa.
Aside from the potential cast and costume list, here’s what we know: Danza plays Che’s father, which would make him either Mexican or Irish, since Che is both. The studio cast the Mexican-American, but it made him insecure — and rightly so! — because Danza himself is clearly not Mexican. His full name is actually “Anthony Salvatore Iadanza”, so I am curious that whoever is behind this pilot can imagine that this man could be anything else. other than the Italians.
However, Che persisted. Danza opens up to them, explaining that he agrees with the show’s message, but he can’t play a Mexican native. guy from Who is the boss? made it this long without being cancelled, but it sure does. The show acknowledges and makes him Italian, which is contiguous enough to the Irish side of Che for them to reluctantly agree. their mother in Making Pasa will be Mexican – even though Che’s father in real life is Mexican – and will die… for plot purposes.
Instead, Che will have all of their culture’s heart with their abuela, which is great, because the actress taking on the role “killed it” in reads, according to Danza. What insight does this give us about the show? It’s a family sitcom. Maybe. But so far, it really seems to be all drama.
“I think what you’re doing here is really important. And cute!” Danza told Che, “You’ll open your heart and change a lot of minds.” Let’s say that “really important and cute” is the genre of the show.
We get some of that Italian in this week’s episode, “Chapter Three,” in which Che runs after their lines with Miranda.
“How’s it going, my little cannoli?” Miranda said, like Danza.
“Dad, can you please stop calling me that?” Che shot back.
“I’m not allowed to call you that anymore? Who am I offending now – cake or ice cream?
This must be an award-winning post. That’s all I will say.
The lines go on to reveal a sad scene as Che cries over their identities, but this is too dark for Che, who doesn’t want to portray being non-binary as a “tragedy”. Again, I’m confused about the genre, and why is the cannabis plant so important to this scene?
In another scene from this week’s episode, Miranda attends the pilot’s taping and sits in the live studio audience. Right before the recording, Miranda receives a phone call from her son, Brady (Niall Cunningham), who has just gone through a breakup in Europe. Miranda wanted to continue chatting with him, but the security on set needed to take her phone away, so she snuck in. That’s how we get a glimpse of the cannoli’s big break in aviators.
None of that is all that funny. That could have been the problem, as Che revolted against the writers’ terrible “jokes” and Danza’s quotes like: “For a gay kid, he plays putt-putt pretty well. good.”
So the plot of Making Pasa just Che is Che? The pilot appears to be preparing a show that includes Che moans while their annoying (but loving!) father struggles to be politically correct about his gender identity. my child. Perhaps the next episode will see Che’s dating life, in which a lover like Miranda breaks up with them over a note. I’ll see—but I don’t think the world is ready for Making Pasa.
