Coming soon: 2024 GMC Sierra EV | Daily Drive | Consumer Guide® The Daily Drive
Another competitor entering the booming electric pickup market is that on October 20, GMC announced the opening of pre-orders for the 2024 Sierra EV. The Sierra EV will be the second battery-powered pickup from the General Motors brand following the launch of the GMC HUMMER EV in 2020.
The first models available to consumers will be the “Denali Edition 1”, making it the top of the line. By the 2025 model year will be AT4 themed off-road and Trims Elevation. While the company is working on other versions, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more mainstream SLEs and/or SLTs join the list, presumably in 2026.

GM says the Sierra EV’s engine can produce 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque in peak power mode. Expected maximum range is 400 miles. The truck will support 800 Volt DC Quick Charge with a maximum input power of 350 kW, allowing for a range of up to 100 miles in 10 minutes. Like the opponent Ford F-150 LightningThe Sierra EV will be able to act as a large generator with a capacity of up to 10.2 kW.
Its traditional pickup capabilities will include a maximum payload of 1,300 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds. The bed will be 5 feet, 11 inches and includes MultiPro Midgate, when opened, creates additional storage up to 9 feet between the bed and the back door. Also standard on Version 1 will be GMC MultiPro Tailgate, which can be set up in four different configurations for easy loading of bulky goods or bed access. Additional cargo capacity will be provided free of charge with the front trunk.
The cabin will be the regular GMC Denali with appropriate premium materials including genuine wood, aluminum and stainless steel trim. The infotainment screen measures 16.8 inches diagonally and vertically – a first for a GMC vehicle. The driver will have a choice of 5 driving modes with specific steering, suspension, thrust, sound and power settings. It will also feature 4-wheel steering to reduce the vehicle’s turning radius and the brand’s unique “CrabWalk” that turns the rear wheels at the same speed and angle as the front wheels, allowing the truck to move diagonally. Naturally, GM’s superb SuperCruise autopilot is standard.
The 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Edition 1 has a list price of $107,000 plus destination fees. Other trim levels are expected to start near $50,000.

CG says:
With sky-high demand for electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, it was only a matter of time before GMC stepped in. With more traditional styling, the Sierra EV will prove to be a more popular choice than the HUMMER EV that will be sold in the same showroom. A user tax is expected soon, but we’re more interested in how GMC will pack the $50,000 base model that will be released after the launch versions sell out.
