Control 2 During the ‘Concept Phase’ When Remedy Announced Development Agreement With 505 Games
Remedy Entertainment has announced a new agreement with publisher 505 Games to co-develop and market Control 2. The news also provides details on the sequel’s development status.
According to one Press Release, Control 2 (once known as Codename Heron) is currently in the concept stage, built into Remedy’s proprietary Northlight engine. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Remedy will release the PC version while 505 will handle the console releases of the game. Control 2 doesn’t have a release window, but Remedy has released a piece of concept art, posted below.
The press release also states that Control 2’s initial development budget was €50 million. Remedy and 505 will split marketing and development costs equally, as well as revenue generated from the release. However, Remedy retains full ownership of the Control IP. The press release also reveals that First Control has sold over 3 million copies since its launch in 2019.
Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group/505 Games said: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Remedy and together continue the success story of Control. “… Control is the biggest investment 505 Games has ever made, so it has a special place in our hearts. We’re grateful to the entire community of players for making Control such an enduring and beloved game, and are even more excited to launch Control 2.”
This announcement was teased for the first time June last year, as Remedy and 505 revealed plans for a new Three-A Control experience. That same update revealed an upcoming multiplayer sub-game called Project Condor. Earlier this year, Remedy also signed a contract with Rockstar to develop Max Payne remakes 1 and 2.
