Sony is working to increase PS5 supply during the holiday period
Sony said it is ramping up production of the PlayStation 5 and is “working hard to bring in additional supplies during the holiday sales season.”
In its time latest earnings results, Sony explained that both software sales and gaming engagement were down year-over-year – not a big surprise given the massive increase in gaming during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“Taking into account this situation,” Sony explained, “we plan to take action to increase user engagement during the second half of the fiscal year, during which major titles including its software First party is scheduled to release, mainly by increasing the supply [PS5] hardware and advertises the new PlayStation Plus service. “
Sony said it still expects to meet its forecast of 18 million units sold this fiscal year and is showing positive signs of supply after the lockdown was lifted in Shanghai, a major manufacturing hub. large component production. Sony used to promised to ramp up production this year, but supply remains limited, with new units selling almost immediately. During a Q&A session, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said, “We want to produce more units as soon as possible.”
