India reported 2.47 lakh new coronavirus infections today, the highest one-day increase in the ongoing wave. The country’s total is now 3.63 crore, including 5,488 Omicron Covid variant cases, reported across 28 states and union territories.

Active cases account for 3.08% of total infections, while the nationwide COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 95.59%. According to the Ministry of Health data updated this morning, an increase of 1,62,212 cases in active COVID-19 loading was recorded over a 24-hour period.

Daily positivity was recorded as 13.11% while weekly positivity was recorded as 10.80%. The ministry said the cumulative doses administered in the country to date under the nationwide vaccination campaign have exceeded 154.61 crore.

According to the Ministry of Health, up to 380 people have died from Covid within the past 24 hours. This number includes 199 deaths in Kerala over the past few months, added based on pending appeals following the Supreme Court’s final guidance.

Maharashtra, one of the states hardest hit by the Covid pandemic, added 46,723 new COVID-19 cases, an increase of more than 27% from a day ago, bringing the total number past the 700,000 mark. The new cases include 86 infections of the highly contagious strain of Omicron, pushing their cumulative number in the state to 1,367, according to the state health department.

Delhi reports 27,561 new Covid cases, an increase of 29% from cases in the last 24 hours and the most cases in a single day since April. The positivity rate has touched 26%, the highest in seven months.
