Edmonton Oil Kings win 4-2, complete series sweep of Red Deer Rebels – Edmonton
Dylan Guenther scored two goals and assisted another to take the lead Edmonton Oil Kings to win 4-2 and sweep the series 4-0 Red Debels Wednesday in WHL.
The win improves Edmonton’s record to 8-0 in the post-season as it took just four games to take out Lethbridge Hurricanes in the first round.
Carter Souch scored the winning goal at 39 seconds in the second half and also added an assist for the Oil Kings.
Rebel keeper Connor Ungar saved 47 of 51 shots and Jhett Larson and Blake Gustafson each scored for Red Deer.
The Oil Kings are the 2nd seeded team in the Eastern division and finished with 104 points this season, the second most in the league.
They will see the winner of the Winnipeg Ice-Moose Jaw Warriors series in the Eastern Conference finals.
Winnipeg and Moose Jaw also played Wednesday as Ice beat the Warriors 5-3 to take a 3-1 lead. Winnipeg will have a chance to wrap things up and meet Edmonton in Friday’s conference final in his hometown.
There’s another game in the works on Wednesday. The Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Portland Winterhawks 5-0 to get to the table in their second-round playoff series. Seattle now only lost 2-1.
Match 4 between the two teams will take place on Friday.
