Crankworx Summer Series attracts top talent to SilverStar Mountain Resort – Okanagan
Crankworx Summer Series has taken over SilverStar Mountain Resort for four days of adrenaline-filled competition.
The competition brings it to race caliver Crankworx and competitors from around the world to the Okanagan.
“Crankworx is the ultimate mountain biking experience. Born in Whistler, BC in 2004, Crankworx has grown into a multi-stop international festival chain. The Crankworx World Tour brings together the best mountain bikers to compete in elite level competitions in a variety of disciplines,” a press release states.
The Crankworx Summer Series takes competitors on a tour of Canada’s racetracks. This year it was held at SilverStar Bike Park as well as five different mountains in Quebec.
“Races and competitions give local and upcoming riders the chance to race against national and international heroes, providing a pathway to the potential greatness of the Crankworx World Tour in the future. and a really good time along the way,” the statement said.
Competing this year is Langley, BC’s Chance Moore. He’s hoping to secure a spot in the Redbull Joyride taking place at Crankworx in Whistler on August 13 by riding well at the Summer Series.
“I love adrenaline in all its magnitude and where you can go, you can push yourself and it’s super sweet,” says Moore.
The competition is steep as the roads are steep. Moore will face racers like Nicholi Rogatkin from Boston, USA
I’ve always been the type of person to do a lot of laps and turns,” says Rogatkin. “Some of the other guys have more technical skills and coordinated moves but for me it’s a crowd pleaser, in a gymnastics style.”
To win, Crankworx chief executive Darren Kinnaird says the 140 athletes competing this weekend need more than just the right skills and their tricks. There was another thing that could bring them victory.
“It’s going to be nerve-wracking for what these guys are doing, it’s risky,” Kinnaird said. “They practice a lot, you really notice their composure at the starting gate and when they come on, it’s just the confidence that they really shined.”
Next is Crankworx in Whistler, BC from August 4 to August 14. The Crankworx’s Summer Series continued in Quebec from September 1 to September 5.
