A hand mixer is a kitchen tool, a tool sometimes required to perform tasks quickly and not too demanding. With a pair of swingers and a lightweight handheld setup, it’s rarely the best or most powerful tool for the job. The experiment started by mixing the pâte sucrée doozy powder. I really should have used a stand mixer, but this tells me a lot about Cuisinart right away. Adding butter, then water to dry ingredients, is obviously not as easy as using a stand mixer. When I swapped out my KitchenAid hand mixer, it was clearly less bogged down by the whole thing. However, both do better than I thought.

It’s nice to be able to put the mixer on its heel, the way you might put an iron. But it’s hard to imagine that in its lifetime you wouldn’t accidentally end up with flour or egg whites or a stream of water from the sink into that port. There’s also a rechargeable LED light, which unnecessarily becomes the brightest of all my kitchen appliances when the mixer is plugged in. Something more subtle would be a lot.
