Universal files flurry of trademark applications for Bored Ape NFT that hint at crypto and merch plans

Last month, Universal Music GroupWeb3 label of 10:22 PM purchased an NFT Bored Ape for over $350,000.

At the time, UMG said plans for the digital character, titled “Manager Noët All”, is to let it serve as the manager of the virtual NFT band of 10:22 PM, KINGSHIP, is launched by UMG in November and is also made up of Bored Apes.

Now, after buying Bored Ape last month, Universal has filed several trademark applications for NFT ‘Manager Noët All’ (first report by Coindesk).

Filed in late March, Universal’s applications were filed under various Trademarks and hinted at a plan that could double down on its activities in the Web3 space.

Among the trademark applications filed were for group 009, cover Computers and Scientific Equipment.

According to UMG’s submit, in the case of Bored Ape NFT, the trademark would apply to everything from “downloadable and rewritable computer programs to video games and computers; interactive video game shows and audio and visual recordings featuring live entertainment “for” animated characters; downloadable virtual goods; downloadable virtual goods linked to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the blockchain”.

UMG also filed a US trademark application for NFT under International class 042, mention Science and Technology Services.

This filing indicates that the proposed goods or services in connection with the mark will include: “Offering temporary use of non-downloadable software to enable users to view, analyze, analyze, record, store, monitor, manage, buy, sell and exchange digital currencies, virtual currencies, electronic money, digital assets and blockchains, digital assets, digital token, Cryptocurrency token, utility tokenapplication token, and non-fungible token (NFT)” (Bolding MBW’s).

Other services listed in the filing include “computer services, namely creating an online virtual environment for the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies and virtual currencies.”

Other applications have been filed under Trademark Class 28, including Games and Sportswear and Brand Class 21, for Household Appliancesboth hint at possible real-world sales plans for the virtual character.

Before list of goods such as “The board game; card games; the device is sold as a device for playing card games; electronic game devices with the function of telling time; handheld unit for playing video games”.

The latter list items like “Champagne bucket; cocktail shakers; shot glasses, as well as, “cups; beverages; glass beverages; baked goods and food.”

Elsewhere in Web3, in December, UMG Mực Ink Expanded global partnership with “avatar tech company” Genies to develop avatars and digital wearables for UMG’s artist roster.

In February, UMG announced a ‘strategic partnership’, with digital collection company Curio, which UMG calls “the leading Non-Fungible Token (NFT) platform for entertainment brands and music artists”.

Also in February, UMG to rent as Product Manager, Global E-Commerce, responsible for driving its Web 3.0 business forward.
