December Wholesale inflation eases slightly to 13.56%

Wholesale price inflation broke through a 4-month upward trend in December 2021 and fell to 13.56%, mainly due to lower fuel, energy and manufacturing prices despite strong food prices. .
WPI inflation has remained in double digits for the ninth consecutive month since April. Inflation in November was 14.23%, while in December 2020 it was 1.95%.
“The high inflation rate in December 2021 is mainly due to the prices of mineral oil, base metals, crude oil and natural gas, chemicals and chemical products, food, textiles and paper products, etc. … increase compared with the corresponding month. of the previous year,” the Ministry of Trade and Industry said in a statement.
Inflation in manufactured goods was lower at 10.62% in December, compared with 11.92% the previous month.
In the fuel and electricity group, the rate of price increase was 32.30% in December, compared with 39.81% in November.
However, inflation in food items saw a monthly increase of 9.56% in December, compared with 4.88% in November. The rate of increase in vegetable prices spiked to 31. .56%, compared with 3.91% in the previous month.
Data released earlier this week showed that retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (Combined) rose to 5.59% in December, from 4.91% a month before food prices inched up. .
