“Devin Haney Will Walk Through Kambosos”
Via Sean Jones: Devin Haney will overtake undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr says Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz Jr beat out very well last Saturday night after a decisive one-sided loss in the 12th round to the champ WBC 135 lb.
Fighting in front of a demanding crowd last Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada, the undefeated Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) showed he was the class of lightweight with a decisive win. unanimously in the 12th round, former IBF featherweight champion Jojo Diaz Jr. (32-2-1, 15 KOs).
Haney would be too much for Kambosos
Jojo felt that Haney’s talent would be too much for Kambosos, and that he would overtake him without a hitch. It’s a fight Haney and his eager promoter Eddie Hearn have been fighting for.
Kambosos Jr (20-0, 10 KOs) could be next for Haney in the first half of next year, depending on the decision of Australian Lou DiBella and his promoter.
For US boxing fans, they might enjoy watching Haney fight Gervonta Davis, Vasily Lomachenko or Ryan Garcia. However, Devin and Hearn believe a win over undisputed lightweight champion Kambosos will endorse him in the public eye.
It probably won’t because the average boxing fan in America doesn’t know who Kambosos is and wouldn’t care if Haney beat him to the undisputed champion.
In this era of boxing, belts are less important than boxers with large fan bases, and Kambosos is a name unfamiliar to the average boxing fan in America.
Australia’s Kambosos can have hundreds of titles. Beating him won’t increase Haney’s popularity if he defeats Tank Davis, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, or Vasily Lomachenko.
They still intend to watch tonight’s match between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and the December 11 match between world three-division champion Vasily Lomachenko and the former champion. IBF 135-lb Richard Commey.
Other than that, Ryan Garcia is still on the list and is probably the best alternative to Kambosos if he wants to bring in the most money. Ryan Garcia will bring TONS of fans from USA in terms of new subscribers to DAZN compared to Haney or Lomachenko.
Jojo tells Haney to go through Kambosos
“No, I think the best boxer I have ever fought is Gary Russell Jr,” Jojo Diaz Jr told Fighthype when asked if Devin Haney is the best boxer he’s ever fought.
“I feel like I’ll be under more pressure, but Devin Haney will walk through Kambosos because Kambosos only has a forehand, and I don’t think he has the strength or motivation to push Devin back.
“I feel that Devin will be able to control the pace more,” Jojo Diaz said of his belief Haney trampled Kambosos.
It’s hard not to agree with Jojo Diaz on his predictions about when or if Haney massacred the Kambosos next. Given the way Kambosos faced the injured Teofimo Lopez last weekend, he’ll be in a world traumatized by a talent like Haney.
Haney needs to improve her strength – Diaz says
“He is fast, very elusive and has some great songs. Devin Haney, he beat me to it tonight, but he still has a lot to go through,” said Diaz Jr. continue. “My fight with him will make him a better fighter and make him progress in his career and mine as well.
“It will make me a better fighter. So I’m going to go back to the drawing board and get better,” Jojo Diaz said in a positive review of his lackluster performance.
“I feel like his pop music,” Jojo said of what Haney needs to improve. “Yeah, he can improve it just with stronger legs and maybe more weight gain.
“I feel that cutting the weight that he has, he’s a big guy, so I feel like cutting that weight has exhausted his body a lot. So he doesn’t carry the same kind of strength that he has in the gym and in the fight for that.
“If he gains weight, he’ll probably get those knockouts because he’ll be able to carry more power,” says Haney’s Jojo.
“Devin Haney, I respect their team. He’s fought a terrible battle, and he’s the better one tonight. To him, he deserves the best, and yes, with the Kambosos fight, the styles make up the battles,” said Jojo Diaz Jr.
As Jojo Diaz says, Devin will need to move up to 140 for him to improve his punch power because he’s currently thin and light and it takes too much of his power, down to 135.
With Haney’s frame, he can get to 147 without a problem and has more power in that weight class than he can in 135 or 140.
