Diablo IV there are six Uber Uniques those are the rarest and some of the most powerful items in the game. Players have spent hundreds of hours without seeing them—until now. A trick to easily earn them was recently discovered, and Blizzard has now completely removed the items from the game in an attempt to stop the madness.
Previously only farmable in Nightmare dungeons, Uber Uniques have been added to the game’s Helltide event in the latest patch, an in-game event in which a specific area of the map turns blood red and overruns with extremely tough enemies. Players quickly discovered that there was a way to greatly increase their chances of getting a Harlequin Crest, better known as Shako, one of, if not more, strongest item in Diablo IV. That’s because characters like Barbarians don’t have many Unique helmets, meaning Helltide chests that only emit helmets are more likely to grant those players Shakos instead.
YouTuber Raxxanterax said: “Just do Helltide and open the helmet chest over and over and these things fall out like candy. a video tutorial about tricks. Players rush to try to get their Shako before Blizzard restricts mining and Diablo IV Forums and subreddits immediately started filling up with Success Story And memes. Players who chose the night of July 6 to not log into the game are kicking themselves, while others who received Shako have appealed to Blizzard don’t take away their Uber Uniques cheese.
It didn’t take long for Blizzard to step in and delete Uber Uniques, including Shako, completely out of the game until a hot update is released. Naturally, there have been debates as to whether this actually constitutes a vulnerability, compared to players just catching on to a seeming malpractice in the game’s design following the latest patch. . Others complained about Blizzard’s speed of response to the supposedly innocuous issue when other quality of life features were still missing from the game.

On the plus side, once the hotfix goes into effect, Uber Uniques like the two-handed sword The Grandfather and Ring of Starless Skies will be easier to earn overall as they will now also participate in Helltide activities. While players still might not earn them even after tens of hours of late-game farming, they can at least change the landscape from their standard Nightmare dungeon runs.
Diablo IVthe first season, meanwhile, Go live on July 20. Players will have to start all-new characters but also gain access to a host of brand new abilities and season-specific builds. Hopefully the action RPG’s most devoted players can earn at least one or two of their most coveted Uber Uniques at the time.
Update 7/7/2023 7:38 p.m. ET: blizzard has hotfix release and get Uber Uniques back up and running. It says a total of only 142 accounts earned them while mining Helltide chests is active, and the studio has no plans to take them away from players. However, if something like this happens again in the future it might be to keep things fair.. This is full patch notes:

- Fixed an issue where Uber Unique items had a higher chance of unintentionally dropping from a Helltide Chest.
Developer Note: With the above change, we have re-enabled the Uber Unique rewards in Diablo IV. In total, we discovered that only 142 accounts received Uber Uniques from launch 1.0.4 until we disabled Uber Unique items from the game on the evening of July 6. There are no plans to remove these items from the account. In the future, we may need to take action to maintain fairness in the game when a bug or exploit affects the gameplay of others.
Change the gameplay
- Helltide Chests will now have a chance to drop any Special item and are not limited to specific item placement limits from any chest.
Developer Note: With the above change, players will now be able to find Unique items from ALL Helltide Chests. Uber Unique items also have a chance to be found from all chests.
