Once again, Doctor Dino (Fr) leads the National Hunt scene, with a trio of avid young males topping the third session of Wednesday’s Arqana Fall Sale. Consigned by Haras des Pierre Follets, Lot 655 led the day with a record €200,000 from Paul Basquin of Saubouas Bloodstock, who bid on behalf of Genetique Obstacle. Bred by Ecurie Cerdeval, the April foal is not a Caprika Bella (Fr) (Poliglote {Fr}). He comes from the family of Kapgarde (Fr) and Barney Dwan (Ire).
“We buy horses for resale or as stallions,” explains Basquin. “He will most likely be castrated. He is a beautiful son of Dr. Dino. He has perfect physicality with unusual walking. His dam is Poliglote’s and has produced winners. He has everything you would want to see in a sale.”
Earlier in the session, Basquin also signed the logbook lot 606, son of Saint Des Saints (Fr) from Haras du Lieu des Champs.
Also hitting six figures yesterday was Lot 663, who received a final bid of €150,000 from Spincourt Bloodstock. Out of Cue to Cue (GB) (King’s Theater {Ire}), the March foal is one-half for recent winner St Donats (Fr) (Saint des Saints). She was provided by Haras de Maulepaire.
As of the end of Wednesday, a total of 144 calves a year had been sold for a total of €3,736,500, up from €3,705,500 a year ago. The average for the session is €25,948, down 6% from 2021, and the average is €15,000, down from €20,000 last year.
The sale continues on Thursday with the National Hunt livestock session, which begins at 11 a.m. (local time).
