Dog found eating dead meat outside Madhya Pradesh hospital, second incident in 2 years
Bhopal:
A dog is seen eating the carcass of a fetus outside the district hospital in Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh. The hospital has requested an investigation into the shocking incident. A sanitation worker spotted the dog with the body of a newborn baby and chased it away.
Dr. DK Bhargava, Civil Surgeon at Ashoknagar Hospital told NDTV, “We received the information in the morning. We have now kept the body safe in the autopsy room and have also informed us. In previous cases, we have seen that family members do not properly bury the infant’s body, rushing to dispose of the body.”
A similar incident happened outside the hospital last August, when feral dogs were discovered eating the carcass of a newborn baby.
Locals believe this is the fourth such incident in the past two years.
The hospital, which treats nearly 400 patients a day, is facing a shortage of doctors and other medical staff. There are 24 approved positions for doctors at the hospital, of which 20 are open. The hospital has a form of sanctioning 49 boys, ward technicians. But right now, 31 of these posts are being left blank.
The situation is the same as in other medical colleges and government in the state. A total of 856 positions are vacant in 13 medical colleges across the state. There are only 4,815 doctors at government hospitals, despite the total number of vacancies being 8,904. There is also a shortage of 16,000 nursing staff.
