Eddie Hearn Talks Fury Vs. Joshua’s Offer: “Accept It Or Walk Out”
Via Adam Baskin: Eddie Hearn said he basically received or left an offer from Tyson Fury’s team during negotiations for Anthony Joshua.
Although Hearn admitted that he was not satisfied with many of the offers, he had no choice but to accept or walk away.
Hearn said he accepted the offer on December 3 with a 60-40 split and a 50-50 rematch clause, should Joshua beat Fury.
This is an opportunity Hearn doesn’t want to turn down because Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) probably won’t have another chance to fight Fury.
With Fury on the verge of fighting unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and talking about retirement, Hearn doesn’t want to lose the fight or Joshua while he still has a chance.
Joshua’s two recent losses to the highly skilled Usyk are meaningless for this deal as Fury isn’t that fast or hard to hit.
If Joshua can land on Fury’s body, he has a great chance of getting air out of his tyres.
“We have received an offer; We tried to negotiate the offer. We weren’t satisfied with much of that, but we were clearly told, ‘Don’t move. Accept it or go away,’ and we went,’‘We accept it,’“Eddie Hearn said to iFL TV about his efforts to negotiate a better deal for Anthony Joshua against Tyson Fury.
“AJ has wanted that fight for too long. He accepted all the terms that Tyson Fury gave him. We accepted that on Friday. We are still waiting for the contract. I spoke to George Warren this morning and he said he’ll have it in the next few days.
“I hope December 3 becomes a reality. There’s no reason it shouldn’t. No one on their team made me feel like I shouldn’t. I don’t want to get too excited. Do not forget; we signed for this fight before. Hopefully, we can re-sign and that will happen.
“We still have to learn about the broadcast situation, but BT and DAZN are very excited, and the negotiations will be very proactive and productive for those people to work together and move forward. It was the biggest fight in boxing. Everyone wants to be a part of it. Hearn said there are still conversations.
