Edmonton Oilers wrapped up by Kraken – Edmonton
The Edmonton Oilers failed to score on Monday night, losing 3-0 in a pre-season game against the Seattle Kraken.
Matty Beniers opened the scoring for Seattle in the second half, beating Olivier Rodrigue with a shot from the left.
Tyler Benson broke away to pull the Oilers even but was stopped by Martin Jones.
Then in the second half, Kraken goalkeeper Joey Daccord passed a long pass to Ryan Donato. Donato was pressed into the net but kept the shot and balanced long enough to hit a circle behind Ryan Fanti.
The Oilers had a five-minute power play late in the second when Jacob Melanson was penalized for a header against James Hamblin. However, Kraken widened the gap with a missed goal from Morgan Geekie in the first minute of the third half.
“Some players who don’t usually play with power have had some touches of the ball, and that leads to confidence in attack. I think we still have good looks,” said head coach Jay Woodcroft.
Martin Jones (13 saves) and Daccord (16 saves) combined for the opening match. Rodrigue parried eight of the Oilers’ nine shots while Fanti denied 16 of 18.
“I think our level of play is really good. I think we did some good things there. But, we didn’t score. There’s a lot to build on and this is the time of year to try to set up your own team game and individual game,” said Oilers forward Devin Shore.
The Oilers will play in Calgary on Wednesday. The Faceoff Show over 630 CHED at 5:30pm The game will start at 7pm
