Elks lose their best lineman for Friday’s game in Ottawa – Edmonton
The Edmonton Elks will be looking to break a three-game losing streak on Friday in our nation’s capital when they face the Ottawa Redblacks. The team will have to contend with not having the services of their best attacking striker.
Center David Beard was dropped from the competition on Friday after appearing on the Elks injury report as ill.
Beard was able to train on Tuesday and played the first nine games of the season. Mark Korte or Tomas Jack-Kurdyla will take center stage of Beard.
Whoever the center is, they will win the ball for full-back Taylor Cornelius, who will have his fifth game in a row of the season on Friday night in Ottawa.
In the last three games, Cornelius has averaged 221 yards of passing but has been fired 14 times. Elks head coach Chris Jones said he’s satisfied overall with Cornelius but last weekend’s interception in the 4th in a 34-23 loss to the Riders showed his decision-making need to improve.
“Sometimes he gets a bit stuck. Jones said. “If you are confused in this league, and there are good defensive coordinators and defensive staff…
“If you have to move around to give us a few yards, you do it. I think in the first half he was quite assertive in the running and then in the second half he was a little more cautious to move and try to make the defence.”
Friday’s game between the Elks and the Redblacks from TD Place Stadium in Ottawa will be at 5pm 630 CHED will be covered live start with Countdown to start at 3:30 pm
