Every voice matters | IU health
Imagine the emergency department as a choir. Each worked together as the songs progressed to their climax before moving down to the tiniest whispering tune.
Every voice matters, as Ryan Matthews, MD, knows all too well.
“He is a good listener, he wants to know what matters most and cares about his patients,” says emergency physician Robert Adams, DO, FACEP, FACOEP, Service Line Medical Executive Emergency Care, said.
He went on to explain that Matthews has maintained his intriguing, curious personality since the time he joined the team in 2020. In fact, the doctor could very well be defined by the term “has been.” engagement”.
“It’s more than just him taking extra shifts – he does what he does with all his heart,” says Adams.
From coordinating third and fourth-year medical students, to strategizing with nursing leadership, and back to his bedside excellence—Matthew puts everything he has into it. what he does.
“He appreciates engaging others and is a natural teacher in that sense,” says Adams. “He has a natural way of connecting—listening to others and accepting their voices. We need that more than ever.”
And that translates directly to the patient experience. In fact, Matthews was recently recognized as the IU Health Bloomington Emergency Department provider with the highest patient experience score for 2022.
One patient said: “Fast, friendly, professional and great care. Others commented on his consideration, dedication, and caring nature.
Overall, Matthews is a doctor who lives by the IU Health Values and IU Health Bloomington is grateful to have him in their emergency choir.
