Gaza Baby Rescued From Her Dead Mother’s Womb Dies
A premature baby girl was rescued from her mother's womb after her mother died in an Israeli air strike in the city. Gaza is also dead now.
Sabreen Jouda died at a hospital in the southern city of Rafah on Thursday after surviving five days in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit, her uncle told health authorities. Related press. Her father and four-year-old sister were also killed in the airstrike that claimed her mother's life just before midnight on Saturday.
First responders transported the family's bodies to the hospital, where medical staff performed a cesarean section on Sabreen's mother, Sabreen al-Sakani, who was 30 weeks pregnant at the time she was killed. The newborn was then taken to another hospital, where doctors are fighting to keep her alive.
Rami al-Sheikh, Sabreen's uncle, told the AP that his niece was buried alongside her father on Thursday. “We are crazy attached to this baby,” he said. “God took something from us but gave us something in return,” he added, referring to Sabreen's survival after the death of her family.
“But (now) he has taken it all,” al-Sheikh said. “My brother's family was completely wiped out. It has been removed from the civil register. No trace of him was left behind.”
