Gennadiy Golovkin lifts weights to add size to the Canelo Alvarez trio on September 17

Via Sean Jones: Gennadiy Golovkin is lifting weights as part of the warm-up for his three-part match against Canelo Alvarez for their clash in the super-middleweight on September 17 on DAZN pay-per-view.

Canelo will defend his undisputed 168 lb championship, which he won last year after beating a number of weak paper champions from Europe and the US even though Canelo collected all four titles. at 168, he’s only a nominal champion.

Crucially, Golovkin (42-1-1.37 KOs) needed to size up his 5’10” to accommodate the weight that Canelo (57-2-2.39 KOs) placed in the four past years since their last war.

With the three-part match being held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, it became clear to 40-year-old Golovkin that he would need to be able to get the referees out of the game for him to have a shot at beating Canelo

It will be interesting to see how much stronger Golovkin will be at 168 and without having to fight as hard to hit the 160 lb limit as he has been throughout his career.

Golovkin can be a lot stronger at 168 because he won’t need to squeeze through the week to gain weight. We’ve never seen Golovkin fight in the super-middleweight category, and that could be an interesting take on how much his looks have improved.

“Yes, I feel GGG is a really strong fighter. The only reason I didn’t like his last fight [against Ryota Murata in April], but he may have left the week of. Travel all the way to Japan to distract you from the different time zones. Yes, too high. That’s why he looks bad, but it’s also good,” David Benavidez told Fighthype when asked if he thinks Golovkin can beat Canelo Alvarez in their trilogy.

“People thought he was washed. So I feel he will look great in this match. It will be a good fight. I like both fights, one and two, so I’ll be sure to watch three as well.

“He is training at Big Bear and doing well. All the reports that I get from his training camp are that he’s doing great,” promoter Tom Loeffler told Sports artist KO about Golovkin and his training for the third battle against Canelo.

“He’s just turned 40, but of anyone who’s 40, he’s still at the highest level of the sport,” Loeffler continued about GGG. “You saw what he did with Murata, who was a world champion.

“Flyed to Tokyo to unify the titles there, and GGG excelled in the knockout. This war [with Canelo] is at 168 on September 17 back to Las Vegas. We can’t seem to play Canelo outside of Las Vegas. I hope the judges are a little more fair this time when they score a number of the laps nearby.

“It was a big fight, one of the biggest fights in the sport of boxing. It is probably the largest in the US by far. We are really looking forward to such a show.

“It all started with a two-round deficit,” Loeffler said of Canelo’s recent fight with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

“I saw the referees score all four rounds for Canelo, and I think Bivol won two, if not three, of the first four. But that’s one of those things. It’s a Canelo phenomenon.

“I never thought Canelo would lose a decision in Las Vegas, but Bivol proved me wrong. Hat for him. He’s a solid fighter in his own right. 15 pounds heavier than when GGG took on Canelo, but now at 168, I think we’ll see GGG even stronger than him at 160 pounds. Either way, I think it’s going to be a great fight.

“It’s amazing to me because you will think with the decisions that Canelo gets [against Golovkin in their previous two fights] and after being suspended for two tests, you would think GGG would be Canelo’s best friend.

“In the first fight, getting a 10-2 score when most people, including HBO, thought GGG won eight to four [8-4]. In the second game, most people thought it was a draw or in favor of GGG, and then Canelo won his title,” Loeffler said when asked about Canelo getting angry at Golovkin during the match. press tour of the two cities for their three part battle.

“We are still looking at this trilogy as one of the most exciting trilogy out there. Especially since at first, GGG was 40 years old, and Canelo was aiming for the pinnacle of his career. Canelo then loses to Bivol, and GGG defeats Murata.

“Now people think, ‘This is a much closer right than we thought before’ because of those two wars. We are very excited about that fight. Fourth battle terms? ” Loeffler said when asked if there is a rematch clause for the Canelo vs. Golovkin trio.

“Yes, I will leave that to those people [Canelo & GGG] to discuss. So we’re just here to talk about the war. I don’t want to go into too much detail about the negotiations.

“GGG kept knocking people down,” says Loeffler of his early days promoting Golovkin. “He made my job so much easier outside, promoting, marketing, building him when no one really knew who he was.

“He went up there to train at Big Bear, but nobody knows who he is because he fought in Germany. He had an amateur career in Kazakhstan, a great amateur career.

“Then we hit HBO, Showtime, and all the networks, and HBO finally let him shoot. Like I said, as long as he keeps knocking the boys down, we’ll do anything. Take him on tours to Mexico, to Dallas, to Cowboy’s Stadium, to Nascar races. Wherever we can take him.

“For hockey games, Laker games, wherever it is, and Dodger games. He threw the first pitch in Dodger games three times and at Yankees Stadium three times. So he could have made the first three throws of any boxer.

“I know one thing about GGG; I’d say he’s the only active boxer, the only boxer to have recently sold out an arena in Madison Square Garden, sold out T-Mobile in Las Vegas, sold out The Forum and Stubs Hub in LA, sold out O2 Arena in London.

“He [Golovkin] sold out the Saitama arena in Tokyo and actually sold out the Monte Carlo arena. When you have a lot of room on your resume, that’s the definition of a global superstar,” Loeffler said of Golovkin.
