Curly Jack became the second-ranked winner for her freshman male (by Curlin) with a nasty score in GIII Iroquois S. at Churchill Downs Saturday. Moving away warily, the gulf burst out of the fence in sixth place in a swarm as tight as ‘Rising star TDN’ and second pick in Damon’s Mound (Girvin) betting hit a:23.53 in the opening quarter. Favorite colleague ‘Rising Star’ Echo Again (Gunman) count against Damon’s Mound at half time: 47.48. Curly Jack won his time as the top two took the lead with Echo Again a little ahead. Curly Jack makes four wide turns home along Jace Road. Curly Jack headed in the middle of the field and hit a clear shot as Honed edged past Jace’s Road to take second.
Winning coach Tom Amoss said: “I think going into this race, it’s a really good field. “I was able to watch Echo Again this summer in Saratoga and he was impressed to win there. I have great respect for Michelle Lovell’s horse [Damon’s Mound]. I think maybe going twice will give us a chance. “
“It was very special to win my first ranked race for Tom,” said winning driver Edgar Morales. “He did a great job with this horse and I cannot thank him, his entire staff and the owner for allowing me to ride these truly beautiful horses.”
Curly Jack went home with the four-way winner of his career at Churchill Downs on June 2. Swim down to fifth place in Saratoga’s GIII Sanford SS. On July 16, he got his next header at Ellis Park Juvenile S. August 14.

Curly Jack is the 2nd place winner for the first year and juvenile male championship Good magic, following GII Sorrento S. serving Vegas Magic. He’s apart from GI Mother Goose S. runner-up, Connie and Michael, are half-sisters to the High Ridge Road graded winners (Quality Sugar) and Senor Rojo (Out of Place). Already the dam of SP Fannie and Freddie (Malibu Moon), Connie and Michael’s most recent production includes an avid pony by Gunman, who raised $525,000 from the BSW/Crow colts team on the first day of the September Sale in Keeneland. She did not have a pony in 2022, but was bred back to Yaupon.
