Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurupurab, is one of the most auspicious occasions in the Sikh community. Gurupurab 2021: Importance of Guru Nanak Jayanti; How to celebrate:
Guru Nanak Dev – one of the ten Sikh Gurus – was born in 1469 in Nankana Sahib. He is the founder of Sikhism (Sikhism), that’s why, his birth is considered auspicious and divine. Guru Nanak Jayanti is held to revisit the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. And one of the main teachings of the Guru is – belief in one God (Ek Onkar) and submission to the will of God (Waheguru). All teachings and principles of Guru Nanak Dev are found in Guru Granth Sahib – the Holy book of Sikhism.
Celebrations begin two days before the birthday, with the Gurdwaras holding the Akhand Path – the 48-hour non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib. On Gurupurab day, celebrations begin with Prabhat Pheri (process) in the early morning (Amrit Vela). Followed by katha, kirtan and langar. People organize free community lunches (langar) for all people, by denomination, creed and religion.

How to do Kadha Prasad. Kadha Prasad Recipe:
To make Kadha Prasad, we need whole wheat flour (mota atta), buffalo milk, sugar and water. Heat ghee in a heavy bottom pan and add mota atta to it. Stir continuously until the color turns light brown. When you see the buttermilk melt, add the sugar. Stir again until the sugar has dissolved. Add water carefully and stir constantly to avoid lumps. When you see the halwa thicken, turn off the heat and serve hot.
