WBC light welterweight champion Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) let the crowd know what he thought of the challenger Haney (30-0, 15 KOs), going into an expletive-filled rant at the end of today’s weigh-in, which resulted in the pro-Haney crowd booing him loudly.
Oddly enough, Prograis seemed glad, smiling as if he’d done his job to rile the audience. Regis seemed to embrace adopting the villain troll persona to get back at being dismissed as just the token B-side opponent during the entire promotion.
You could tell that Prograis has got his backup about the fans viewing this as a gimme opponent for Haney to defeat on Saturday.

Prograis is being treated like he’s the challenger in this fight, and it’ll be interesting to see if that makes him battle harder, knowing that he’s being treated in a one-down position.
Haney views Prograis as a “bum”
“It feels good to have someone on the other side. For a while now, it’s been me promoting. Kambosos did a good job promoting in Australia,” said Devin Haney to the media. “We’re here in the Bay. It feels good, I’m excited for it.
“I’m going to go in there and do what I do, and he’s going to go in and do what he’s going to do regardless of what I say and he says. I said he was a bum, and I’m going to show that on December 9th.”
Haney isn’t kidding around. He really seems to view Prograis as a limited, slow guy who will be no match for him on Saturday. As such, it’s up to Prograis to prove Haney wrong because he knows what he sees, and that’s an aging “bum.”
“I’m going to go in there and touch him a lot, hit him a lot, and we’ll see how he holds up,” said Haney. “Right now, my main focus is Regis Prograis, and after that, we’ll see. It’ll mean everything to me, my family, and my team.
“We worked hard to get here,” said Haney when asked what it would mean for him to win in front of hometown fans at the Chase Center in San Francisco. “Now, that we’re here at this massive event, now it’s time to perform. It’ll mean everything to me.
Devin feels stronger at 140
“The juice is going, and I’m ready to go. I’m excited. I feel great at 140, stronger than I’ve ever been, but it’s for me to show on December the 9th. I’m going to be victorious on the night.”
If Haney is stronger than he’s been in the past, Prograis will be in deep trouble and could be heading for his second career defeat.
Most would agree that Haney will need big improvements in the power department for him to win this fight because the guy who struggled against Vasily Lomachenko and Jorge Linares won’t get the job done against Prograis.
“That’s all that matters. He can say when he wants about my upbringing and this and that. I say I’m the better fighter,” said Haney.
“It seemed like the energy changed when we were face to face,” said Montana Love to DAZN Boxing about his face-off with Liam Paro at today’s weigh-in. “He feels the energy.”
Light welterweight fringe contender Montana Love (18-1-1, 9 KOs) was upset about Liam Paro’s recent comments this week about him folding under pressure in his recent fight with Steve Spark.
“I hope he doesn’t think he’s a bully. We got something for bullies for sure.”
